What Do You Use Your Phone For?
Follow @ryderskull88
If you asked someone this question twenty, fifteen or even ten years ago they might look at you strangely. ‘What a daft question’, they may respond. ‘To make a phone call, of course.’
Yet nowadays phones are mobile, they come in all different shapes, sizes and colours, and they have such a wide variety of uses. Phones are no longer designed to simply make phone calls. And, if you were to ask the younger generation you would probably find that they hardly ever use their phone to make a call.

BlackBerry Crumble – Are We Seeing the End of an Icon?
Follow @ryderskull88
It’s been yet another busy week in the world of BlackBerry and one that by all accounts would be preferable if wiped from memory altogether. It’s becoming all-too apparently that we’ve all been given a front-row seat to watch the slow and agonising death of what was once one of the world’s favourite and more important brands – BlackBerry’s clock is ticking and it’s only a matter of time before it’s all over.

How Does The Nokia Lumia 920 Measure Up To The Blackberry Z10?
Follow @ryderskull88
The Blackberry Z10 has finally made its arrival, marching in loud and proud with the Blackberry 10 operating system accompanying it. The company hopes that this unit will be the one that will help rejuvenate sales to the company. The Z10 is a worthy competitor against other smart phones like the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3, but the truth is, the smart phone should be placed in the same category as the Nokia Lumia 920. This Windows 8 smart phone is quickly rising in the ranks toward smart phone superiority, and the Z10 could be the closest thing the 920 has to a contender. How do these two phones compare when it comes to specification?

The plan I looked at on the 4G LTE carrier was at £41 per month, unlimited calls and texts, and 1GB of data. There were other plans with more or less data available at varying costs.

Basic Features of the Smartphones
The Operating System
Importance of the Memory
-->
The Smartphone devices are popular among the cell phone users all over the world. The question is: what is a Smartphone, and how it is different from the traditional cell phones? A Smartphone device is actually a cell phone which has various, additional features. A Smartphone is built on an operating system which has the ability to perform advanced computing functions and Internet connectivity. The Smartphone was introduced to the concept of combining the functions of the cell phone and a personal digital assistant. The recent models of Smartphones go beyond that and have some additional features which are neither available in the traditional cell phones or in the personal digital assistants such as built-in media players, cameras, and GPS navigation.
Basic Features of the Smartphones
The recent models of Smartphones also include a touch screen feature, a high-resolution, built-in camera, various browsers that also display the standard Websites besides opening the mobile versions of the Websites. With the compatibility for WiFi and mobile broadband, the connectivity of the latest Smartphones is also included in some of the brands of Smartphones. There are various operating systems used in the different brands of these Smartphone devices. Some of the common operating systems are: Apple’s iOS, Android from Google, Symbian from Nokia, BlackBerry from RIM, Windows from Microsoft, Bada from Samsung, and WebOS from HP. The Smartphone market becomes an extremely attractive place for the developers as the interest of people is increasing in these devices.
The Operating System
One of the main features of the Smartphones is the “apps” which is the shortened form of “applications.” These apps are actually a small software that is developed to perform certain tasks such as playing popular games and other professional tasks. The popularity of Smartphone apps is increasing as people want to download an app for any reason such as getting the information of the local weather, or knowing the prices of your favorite stocks. Some of the recent models of Smartphones have the ability to connect to the Internet via 3G which is a high-speed, Internet connectivity service. Keeping in mind the dependence on the Internet is increasing, the developers of Smartphones are also providing different options on Smartphones that are based on the Internet.
Importance of the Memory
Some of these Smartphones have the option of a memory card slot to increase the memory of your device. Some other Smartphones, such as the iPhone from Apple, has a massive, internal memory so you can store movies, music, and large files without buying a memory card. Some of the Smartphones have the ability to support the push email feature which enables the users to send and receive emails in real time. Some other Smartphone devices provide you the facility to sync various email accounts in one service. Choosing your Smartphone is extremely important as you need to be sure which brand suits you best. The needs of every person are different when they go to buy a Smartphone device; therefore, you need to know why you want to get the Smartphone.

Smart Phone Users, By The Numbers
Follow @ryderskull88
-->
An infographic by the team at CouponAudit
.
This infographic shows how many people in the world are fond of smartphones and this shows a figure of 1 Billion active users among the 7 Billion estimated populations. As time goes by, the demand of consumers are getting higher and continuous creation of different operating systems are also very competitive. Android’s 25 Billion downloads was reached by Apple and 6 months later, Android reached the same number. This shows how these devices are influencing the present generation. In the age group of 16-29 years old individuals, 95% of them have phone and only 85% are from age group 30 plus. Among these results, smartphone owners in America have higher percentage rate for age group 25-44 years old and the lowest are from 13-17 years old. When Android and iOS operating systems were not out yet, RIM was highly used in EMEA as well as in Japan, NoAm and ROW but not in China. Next to this is the Microsoft but is not used in Japan. Symbian was also highly used in EMEA and ROW but lower in Japan and China. The number of smartphone users can easily get higher with all the new and hi-tech operating systems available and it is not impossible to double the number of active users in few years.

Apps That Help In Business Development
Follow @ryderskull88
-->
Many applications have been/ are being built to support and aid business development. The apps fall into many categories like those that help increase productivity, those which serve in documentation, apps that help with data security etc. Any application which assists employees and managers to work faster and more efficiently and apps that give a hand in keeping clients happy would be a desirable addition to the business scenario.
Here is a glimpse into some apps that benefit business development:
Data Security apps –
Mobile monitoring apps for Smartphones including iPhones and Android mobiles help to backup phone data and to ensure that employees don’t reveal critical business information to competitors. Apps like the Mobile Spy can be quickly installed on a target mobile; they begin to run in stealth mode and record information on a server which can be viewed by the person who is scrutinizing the mobile phone activity.
Smartphone apps for accepting payments –
Application like Intuit GoPayment is very simple to use and makes life easy for businessmen and customers. It is especially suitable for transactions that happen outside the office. By downloading this app on to a Smartphone such as iPhone, Android phones or iPad, users can employ it for accepting payments anywhere, anytime.
With Intuit GoPayment app, cards can be swiped with a card reader; once the card is accepted, customers are enabled to sign on the mobile phone’s touch screen and authorize the business transactions to get concluded. The receipts for payments are emailed to the customers immediately, on the spot.
Online meeting apps for Smartphones –
WebEx meeting Center is an app that allows employees on the go to participate in online meetings – just as though they were sitting at their desks. This app is ideal for iPhone and iPad. There are apps like Cisco WebEx Meetings for Android, which lets users attend, schedule, cancel, begin and end online meetings - without requiring them to be at their office desks.
Productivity improvement apps –
Dropbox – For business folks, documentation is an important task. Say, a doc file needs to be updated from home or a presentation has to be made to a client; he neither needs to carry his laptop nor has to email the file to himself.
With the Dropbox app (which is compatible with iPhone or Android or Windows phone), the user has the capability to access the document instantly. A special Dropbox folder is created when the app is installed - where the user puts in documents, audio or video files he wants to access. These files are made available to designated phones and other computers. This app saves valuable time and makes critical files accessible from anywhere.
Evernote – Another productivity app for Smartphones like iPhone, Android, Windows etc. which can be used to stay organized. This app provides a place where users can store all that they think is relevant to their business and access the same from anywhere. Making notes, storing documents, recording an audio, capturing pictures – can all be done with Evernote app. The app can also be synchronized across multiple devices like PCs and laptops.

The Future of in-app advertisements
Follow @ryderskull88
Advertising is integral for the successful selling and marketing of a product or service. In addition, advertising campaigns are crucial for generating sales and business leads. Earlier advertising methods comprised of trends such as displaying signages & hoardings in public places, broadcasting promotional videos on popular TV channels, and publishing product images on print media. After the dot-com bubble, Internet has become the most preferred place to display business related advertisements and promotions. There are different methods through which you can advertise your product or brand on the Internet.
The most popular methods for advertising your products are: managing blogs, creating dedicated pages on social networking websites, signing up for paid listings on search engine results, and signing up with advertising services like Google AdWords. These methods are the ones that are widely adopted by various organizations and enterprises across the world. But with increasing use of portable devices such as smartphones and tablets, advertisers are looking to seize the enormous opportunities that could rise from being a part of that market. Though the same advertising methods used for computers will work out for the portable device market, there are some new ways to advertise and promote products on portable devices.
One such trend is in-app advertisements. In 2010 alone, there were more than 10.5 billion mobile app downloads and it is estimated that by 2015 there will be more than 180 billion app downloads happening in the app stores. In the current business environment, only 5% of the total mobile ad spending is attributed in-app advertising. These figures certainly justify the broad array of advertising opportunities available in the in-app advertising space. Of all the popular mobile apps available, mobile gaming apps are most favored for the purpose of in-app advertising.
Rovio is one of the most popular game developers that hit the limelight with its far-famed Angry Birds video game. With more than 5 million downloads, the Angry Birds mobile app has reached the pinnacle of the mobile gaming space. The critically acclaimed gaming developer Rovio expects to earn more than $1 million from in-app advertising on the Android platform alone. According to a study, app developers are starting to focus on in-app purchasing and in-app advertising to fund their business models. In 2011 alone, about 59% of app developers shifted to in-app advertising and 56% of app developers prefer in-app purchases.
Success in the world of in-app advertising depends on various factors such as number of apps downloaded, impressions, coupons redeemed, and views. Advertisers should avoid implementing familiar practices such as click through rates and default clicks, while adopting in-apps advertising strategies. Focusing on advertising efforts for your target audience will help you greatly, rather than focusing it on the type of device. Advertisers have a variety of options when planning to adopt in-app advertising. Advertisers have the opportunity to integrate creative attributes such as interstitials, audio content, sponsorships, and video. Evaluate these options and choose the right attribute that would best suit your advertising campaign.
In-app advertising is trending positively to certainly become the next ‘big thing’ in the world of online advertising.

App Mobile vs Website Mobile
Follow @ryderskull88
A mobile application (or mobile app) is a software application designed to run on smartphones, tablet computers and other mobile devices. They are available through application distribution platforms, which are typically operated by the owner of the mobile operating system, such as the Apple App Store, Google Play, Windows Phone Marketplace and BlackBerry App World. Some apps are free, while others have a price. Usually, they are downloaded from the platform to a target device, such as an iPhone, BlackBerry, Android phone or Windows Phone 7, but sometimes they can be downloaded to less mobile computers, such as laptops or desktops. For apps with a price, generally a percentage, 20-30%, goes to the distribution provider (such as iTunes), and the rest goes to the producer of the app.
The term "app" has become popular, and in 2010 was listed as "Word of the Year" by the American Dialect Society. Technologist Michael Saylor has referred to the newer mobile app enabled smartphones as "app-phones" for their distinction from the earlier smartphone models. He states that these app-phones can support many applications and programming languages and should be considered computers first and phones second.
