Would you like to make electronic funds transfer (EFT) payments for every purchase you make? What prevents you from doing it? If this process is like a piece of cake and there is no need even to take your phone out of a pocket would you use it everyday? I believe you would say yes. According to the latest survey in UK 35% of interviewed people would choose their smartphones instead of a wallet and keys in case they can take only one thing with them going out.

Top Reasons Why An Unlocked IPhone Is More Useful Than A Locked One
Follow @ryderskull88
Unlocked iPhones are not generally available in the market. The process of unlocking an iPhone usually is self-practiced after the iPhone is purchased from a carrier. Once the phone is purchased, any tech-savvy person can unlock the iPhone with a few simple steps. Why does the majority of the people unlock their phones? This question has a very simple answer to it. Users who are fond of iPhones wish to have full control over their phones. However whether the phone is bought from a carrier or is purchased directly from the manufacturing company, the phone needs to be factory unlocked and carrier unlocked in order to be used to its full extent.

Why Do I Need A Cover For My Smartphone?
Follow @ryderskull88
Most people spend hundreds of pounds on their smartphones and in recent years, smartphone owners have become very dependent on their gadgets. For many of us, the value of the phone is not the main thing that we want to protect, it is the value of its functions. So many people struggle to imagine everyday life without a constant connection to social media, email and Google. The ability to photograph what is around you and share it with friends is something which was unheard of just over a couple of decades ago whereas now, we take this for granted.

How To Use Your Smartphone To Improve Your Credit
Have you had the chance to look at your credit lately? Chances are if you have you might have noticed it is not as good as it can be. This is going to be a problem because you not having the credit you need is going to really cripple you in a society that is very dependent on access to credit. Your credit score is more than just a number. It can affect you in the following ways.
Dealing With Your Phone Network's Customer Service Department
When you own a mobile phone there will be times when you have to deal with your network provider’s customer services department. Your query could be as simple as a tariff change, or a complaint about your bill. Customer services have well-trained members of staff who are there to help no matter what the problem is.
When you first call the customer service department they will ask you to identify yourself. You may have a password set up on your account and they will ask for that, so have the information to hand. You will need your mobile telephone number or your postcode in order for them to find your account on their system. Finding your account can take a minute or two, so be prepared to be patient.

A Case Of Too Many Good Choices
Apple enthusiasts: Dilemmas galore
Launch of several Apple iPhone variants has made decision making for customers a tad difficult. The decision to opt for one particular model has never been more difficult than now. Customers can choose from iPhone 3, 3s, 4, 4s and 5, but it gets more interesting with the iPhone 5s launch, scheduled for later this year. The plethora of choices clouds the buyer’s judgement over choices. And it doesn’t get any easier. The 4s, which is the model immediately preceding the current release, is still far ahead of many mid to premium phones, even though it is two years old. It has one thing in its favour - the price. With the iPhone 5 selling at over £500, the 4s is a considerable discount, with very little lost in performance and features.

Ubuntu Powered Smartphones to Hit the Market in October
Follow @ryderskull88
-->
Let’s face it! Ubuntu’s newest mobile OS has more than a handful of features to make users fall in love with it. Guess what, I’m one of the many nerds myself! So, what’s hot in the smartphone market? The latest news is that Mark Shuttleworth, the company’s founder and CEO, recently gave some clear-cut information on what the road ahead is like, for the company’s forthcoming array of lineups slated for 2013. In an interview to the Wall Street Journal, Shuttleworth officially announced that the company’s first every native OS-powered smartphone would indefinitely hit the market in October, provided the company’s ongoing preparations are on track without any intermediate delay. As we have seen it on numerous occasions in the past, mobile software launches have come to a halt several times – the most recent being the launch of Blackberry 10. Originally slated to hit the market in 2012, the handset saw the light of the day only last week.
Coming back to our point of discussion, Shuttleworth didn’t have much information for the users in the rest of the chat with the Wall Street Journal. Ubuntu – one of the newest operating systems for smartphones made its nascent presence felt on the ambitious Samsung Galaxy Nexus recently, when the news was announced at last month’s CES 2013 event held in Los Angeles.
In the interview, the company’s founder, Mark Shuttleworth declined to reveal the name of any potential handset that could feature the Ubuntu OS for smartphones in the coming days. Nevertheless that may not rule out expert views – the buzz is that we could soon see Ubuntu’s native OS featuring in any of the flagship devices later this year. After being integrated into the most-anticipated Galaxy Nexus, most developers are now looking to incorporate Ubuntu’s mobile OS in their smartphones.
When prompted again, Shuttleworth finally let the cat out of the bag, not fully though. He said, the promising mobile OS will be making its entry in two major marketplaces later this year – however (yes, you guesses it right!), there is no specific information on it. A hint soon followed.. Shuttleworth said the company is looking at North America as a ‘key market place’ where Ubuntu is most likely to make its debut probably by this fall. As his words suggests, Ubuntu has to overcome some tough competition if it has to make its mark as a leader in the mobile OS space. That’s something interesting to see!
The good news is that, most technical experts who reviewed the Ubuntu OS for smartphones expressed confidence that it will floor some of the major mobile operating systems that exist at present. Experts felt that the stylish user interface and wide array of features could be the key elements that would trigger the success of Ubuntu’s native mobile app.
With the promising Ubuntu all set to make its debut, what are its competitors up to now? Here is what. Telefonica is looking to incorporate the cost-effective Firefox as its OS. Other carriers are also planning to add more features and user-friendly elements in their devices. So the competition is only getting tougher and tougher. Let’s see what kind of impact can Ubuntu’s native OS will make in the smartphone market.

Microsoft Rumored to Launch 'Windows Phone 7.8'
Follow @ryderskull88
Rumors break down any barriers and sometimes imagination spreads like wild fire. Rumors usually surround Apple products. This time around, Microsoft has attracted the attention and its new product Windows Phone 7.8 has been targeted to be rumored. Toni Tech Blog has stated that Microsoft is all set to release its new mobile operating system, Windows Phone 7.8. Microsoft had earlier stated that its upcoming product will be released by the beginning of 2013. This little rumor of the product being launched on Wednesday has been spotted in a number of sites including WMPower User and Mashable.
The rumor must have started from a tip that was found in the Microsoft centered blog. The blog spoke about the latest arrival of new software for Smartphones like Lumia 900 and 510 which belong to Nokia. WMPower User is not able to verify the tip or get a clear understanding of it, because Nokia and Microsoft have been teasing about Windows Phone 7.8. They have been talking about it for months and so, coming to a conclusion with a single line is impossible.
Microsoft comes up with special operating systems for mobiles and PCs frequently. The much expected operating system, Windows Phone 8 was released by the end of October with great pomp. Windows Phone 8 from Microsoft is the first platform which has the capability to share building blocks. Many are still confused over Windows 8 OS and Windows Phone 8 OS. Both the operating systems share common features starting from the live-tile interface which is the signature style of Windows 8.
Meanwhile, WPCentral has stated that it landed upon some promotional materials in Finnish which reveals that there will be a new update following the 7.8 update. It has also mentioned that the materials threw some light on a few new features of 7.8. The 7.8 phone OS is expected to have a unique start screen and plenty of color themes which can be chosen based on convenience.
It is expected to have a lock screen based on Bing and a Wi-Fi connection that can be kept alive even when the Nokia devices are in suspend mode. Every individual tile can be moved around and placed at your convenience. You have the liberty to arrange the screen in such a way that all your apps are in order. For example: All business apps can be placed on top of the screen and all the personal apps at the bottom of the screen. It is also expected to carry the ability to receive and send files using the “Bluetooth File Transfer” which is also a rumor.
Supposedly, CNET is expected to contact Microsoft and learn more about the rumors surrounding it. However, TechCrunch says that a Microsoft spokesman told that complete details about Windows Phone 7.8 will be disclosed by the company in the future.
This news might be a little comforting to the WP7 OS phone owners because Microsoft announced that the new WP8 OS cannot be upgraded by customers who are using the old version. Customers of Nokia Lumia 710 and 900 were disappointed over this announcement. However, back in June when Windows Phone 8 made its official debut, Microsoft and Nokia promised that a new OS carrying the similar features will be sported to an updated version of WP7. This was specifically designed for the WP7 customers. So, this new Windows Phone 7.8 version can be upgraded by Windows Phone 7 customers. Until Microsoft opens up, the rumor is going to be up in the air. I guess the company is going to let the rumors stay in the air a little longer. What do you think?

Three Tips towards Buying a Good Android Phone
Follow @ryderskull88
Author Bio :
Aditya Roy is editor at Android Mag. You may want to read info on LG Spectrum at his blog.
Everyone has an Android phone, and those who do not are looking to get one. If you have not yet bought an Android phone, and are definitely sure that you should get an Android phone, here are three tips that will help you choose a better Android cell phone.
To begin with, take a look at the processor that will be running the Android phone. A smaller processor may actually have you struggle to use the Android system while someone is trying to call you. Today, a 1 GHz processor is quite good for an Android phone. Anything lesser than that might be a bit obsolete, and with newer Android phones coming out almost every six months, the Android phones that have a processor smaller than 1 GHz are definitely on their way out. There are several phones that have more than 1 GHz available. The best way to find out all the specs of a particular phone is to research information about it online. Most of these sites offer the products at a discount too, so you as well buy the cell phone from a website.
Another important tip is that you should check out which operating system your cell phone is shipping with. The latest Android OS system is 2.3, but you would be surprised to find that some manufacturers are still putting in 1.8 and other versions. Though the Android phone can be upgraded Over the Air (OTA), not all cell phones have this capability. In some cases, you might have to travel to the phone manufacturer service center, and then have your mobile phone upgraded. To avoid this, all you need to do is to buy the brand and the model which provides you an Android phone with the latest operating system. Also, if you are buying the cellphone online, you should check the manual and the specifications that are provided at the website from which you are buying the cell phone.
The third tip while buying a good Android phone is to look for a good Android phone with a largish display. There are clutters of cell phones that had the Android operating system, but did not work because they did not have a good display. Remember that the Android is all about the looks and the OS, so you better have a display that does justice to all the games and the apps that the Android device provides.
These are the three tips that you should keep in mind while buying an Android phone.

Electronic Exclusivity: Apps for the Rich and Famous
Follow @ryderskull88
They say money can’t buy happiness. However, where phones are concerned it can certainly buy you an easier life. For years wealthy people have indulged in fast cars, meals out and extravagant holidays. Now with the advent of social media, the evolution of the internet, and phone apps becoming more and more popular, people are putting their money where the technology is.
Vertu, the luxury mobile phone handset, is leading the way with many exclusive offers and services sent straight to your Vertu mobile phone. Albeit, you do have to fork out at least £3,500 rising to £55,000 for the privileges (you need to own a handset) but many of the rich will do so if it allows them to become members of private clubs, gain entry to supposedly full events and receive expert assistance at the touch of a button.

As the financially privileged are often used to getting what they want, when they want it, Vertu’s concierge is available 24 hours a day to meet the needs of their customers.

But it’s not only phone manufacturers who are getting in on the act, however, with websites fast cottoning on to the vastly under serviced demographic which is the filthy rich. Invitation only social networking site ‘Total Prestige’ is one of the first and offers users a LinkedIn/Facebook type experience but with total exclusivity. There is a very hefty joining fee (if you get that far), but that unleashes the world of super duper business, brushing cyber shoulders with the fat cats and having the option to sell your wares to people who can afford anything they want.
There is a VIP section, (as with any posh club, online or otherwise) and this requires a further amount to be shelled out each year - $500 a year for club members and $900 a year for non-members). In this section, users can promote their products and write for the online magazine, therefore targeting their preferred market. This site appears to be veering towards LinkedIn more than a Facebook template with the emphasis on business, networking and self-promotion rather than catching up with old friends.

There are several variations of Total Prestige including Affluence.org and Whytegold.com, all which require an invite and large annual subscription fee. What is obvious is that these sites are targeting affluent individuals who have come to a point where they do not want to mix with ‘normal’ everyday people. Indeed, they are happy to pay for the privilege which gives them that step up onto the rung above the rest of us.
With the influx of dating sites over the last few years there was sure to be one developed for the elite and in stepped Sugardaddy.com, an online meeting place for millionaires. However, when we say millionaires we mean the men, as it is them who pay the $24.99 subscription fee every month. The ladies join for free, can chat with wealthy men and, if they impress them, can be whisked away on expensive dates. Critics have slammed the site, and others have followed suite, by saying it is tantamount to an online platform for men to pick up prostitutes.

Other sites popular with successful singletons are millionaire dating sites which match men and women on the same financial page. These are a completely different concept to Sugardaddy.com and both parties pay a monthly membership fee in the hope of finding their match.
While the Internet is booming in the current financial climate due to bargains and cheaper channels for buying and selling, there is also a large online market for individuals who are successful and financially secure. Until recently this was a vastly under populated niche, however now technology companies are stepping up to the plate and developing products and services especially for them, possibly in the hope they can become as rich as their customers.
There are no huge membership fees at Ladbrokes Bingo; you can even play for free!

Samsung Galaxy Ace - the 'Sleeper Hit'
Follow @ryderskull88
The Camera
For many people, the appeal of any smartphone is its duel ability to make calls, access the internet and take pictures and photographs. Therefore, any phone which is going to not only crack but dominate the market would have to have a powerhouse of a camera phone and the Galaxy did not disappoint with a 5 mega pixel camera for high resolution images.
The Wi-Fi

Processing and Connectivity
The Future
Given that it was released at a similar time and with similar features to the iPhone 4, expectations weren’t high for the Samsung Galaxy Ace but it had a very dramatic impact on high street and online mobile phone sales, being described as a “sleeper hit” – quite a feat when compared with the powerhouse that is Apple marketing.
Although both manufacturers have since announced successors to both machines, there are still those who adore their machine and have no intention of giving it up.
| Samsung Galaxy Ace (Photo credit: Wikipedia) |
So how does the quiet and reserved Samsung Galaxy Ace compare with the iPhone?
For many people, the appeal of any smartphone is its duel ability to make calls, access the internet and take pictures and photographs. Therefore, any phone which is going to not only crack but dominate the market would have to have a powerhouse of a camera phone and the Galaxy did not disappoint with a 5 mega pixel camera for high resolution images.
Whether you’re on business or pleasure when using your phone, Wi-Fi is the be all and end all for many people and whether they realise they’re accessing it or not, many people couldn’t live without Wi-Fi. Therefore when releasing the Galaxy (which sounds a lot more sci-fi than intended) they made sure it was compatible and could support Wi-Fi to a high standard.
Thanks to Apple and their followers, buttons are so last century and the Galaxy is no exception with a full touch screen facility as well as a variety of multi-touch features.
Shape and Size Matters
The Samsung Galaxy Ace is intended to be slick and stylish to match its peers as well as the rest of the Samsung Galaxy family. It is one of the thinnest smartphones at only 12mm thick and the screen is an impressive 3.5 inch screen that dominates the front of the phone.
The various abilities of the Samsung Galaxy Ace, including 800MHz processor, HSDPA 3.5g web browser and speeds of up to 7.2MBPS mean that internet connectivity is a snap wherever and whenever you happen to be looking.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace works on an Android 2.2 Operating System which some might have heard being called “Froyo” what this does is to ensure that Google services are available with more downloadable content and more space to put this content on, as opposed to some Blackberrys which can open but not support the size of certain pages, which can be extremely frustrating.
As many people are aware, Apple have since gone on to produce the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S with an announcement on the iPhone 5 being hailed as imminent.
In the same space of time, Samsung has also released its own follow ups to the Galaxy Ace and these have been similarly well received. The company’s next release will be the Samsung Galaxy S3 and, although no formal plans have been announced, it is expected that this will be released to coincide with the iPhone 5 once again.
This post was written by Terry Brightman - a total gadget geek and proud owner of the new Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone.

How mobile phones can be used for spying
There's no question that mobile phones are truly useful gadgets, but did you know that they can be used for spying with relative ease? Since most modern cameras feature microphones and cameras, they already contain the electronics for pretty sophisticated surveillance, without the need to get any special gadgets or computers involved.
1) Spy phone bugs
Spy phones started appearing in early 2003, which were originally hardware-modified, and then software-modified Nokia 3310 mobile phones (the Nokia 3310 is shown here - looks primitive now doesn't it!?). When I started creating spy phones in 2003, I was doing both hardware and software changes. The changes were designed so that the phone appeared to be switched off, when in fact it was already switched on.
![]() |
| Mobile Phone Spy Camera |
When you dialed the phone, it answered itself automatically without lighting up or vibrating, allowing you to hear what was going on around the phone! So basically they were listening devices, but you could call them up from anywhere in the world. Perfect for spying when you were away from the office or home.
2) Spy Cameras with a covert camera
Now we move on a few years to about 2008-2009, and now we have mobile phones that have embedded spy cameras inside them. The phone looks like a normal phone, but it has a pinhole spy camera concealed within the phone that points out from the top. So if the phone was laying naturally on the table, it could record what was going on opposite you. Since most cameras are on the face of the phone, they are not ideally designed for covert recording, as laying flat, they'd only see the table or ceiling.
Initially cameras were just transmitting (like the one pictured), but now you can get cameras that record to an internal memory card. These digital video recorders are much easier to use, and don't require a wireless camera receiver unlike the earlier models.
3) Spy cameras you can access by video call
Now we're on to technology that's been common from about 2010, and got really sophisticated in 2011. We're now seeing spy cameras that work on the 3G mobile phone networks, which you can access by doing a video call with the camera. So these work just like the original spy phones, but now with video.
![]() |
| Air Freshener Spy Camera |
The actual camera is usually concealed within a clock, smoke alarm, PIR detector, air freshener, or similar. It features the electronics from a 3G mobile phone, but only activates when you call it from a pre-determined number. So a 3G-based spy camera gives you unlimited distance for spying with video. Very cool, but very scary!
So there you go, perhaps something you didn't know already, but some seriously impressive and powerful spying technology, all using a mobile phone!
This is a Guest Post by Dan Harrison.
Dan Harrison is an expert in spy gadgets, and designed one of the very first spy phones. These days, Dan collects spy equipment, particularly interesting covert spy cameras that have been hidden in everyday objects.

The Effects of Electromagnetic Radiation on Cell Phone Users
Cell phones produce radiation. We’ve known that for years and we’ve been getting more and more worried about it. The hands free kit was initially developed not to make driving safer, but to allow cell phone users to operate their devices without actually putting the phone to their ears.
The facts of cell phones and electromagnetic radiation are as follows: loads of people use cell phones; cell phones produce electromagnetic radiation; these fields are potentially carcinogenic. Scared yet? Well don’t rush off the deep end. First of all – loads of stuff is potentially carcinogenic, including (apparently – I even had a girlfriend once who wouldn’t eat it because of this) burnt toast. So listening to scare mongers isn’t advised.
Have a look at the thinking around electromagnetic cell phone radiation and its effects. According to the IARC (the International Agency for Research on Cancer), the primary method by which electromagnetic radiation affects the human body is by raising the temperature of individual cells. Cell phones use such low levels of EM that the only temperature they raise is in skin cells and subcutaneous cells – there is very little evidence suggested that the prolonged use of a cell phone can raise the temperature of your brain or other internal organs.
Also, the power of the EM effect decreases hugely in exponential relation to the distance of the handset from the body. Ergo, when you send text messages, your cell phones are hardly affecting you with their EM at all. This is why (as noted above) the hands free kit was developed. Not to make driving safer but to keep the handset away from your head.
The IARC has commissioned studies looking at the potential effects of prolonged cell phone use on a person’s likelihood of getting head and neck tumours. After studies conducted in several countries the IARC has found no causal link between the one and the other – though results did show that the highest 10% of phone users – those who said that they routinely conducted phone calls that lasted for a long time, and by long time we mean hours, every day – did have a slightly higher instance of head and neck tumours.
Overall, the current wisdom is that electromagnetic radiation does have the potential to have a carcinogenic effect – but that using cell phones has yet to be proved to endanger you any more than, say, going to the supermarket or watching television. The simple fact of the matter is that the modern world is absolutely chock full of radiation signals, emitting from your computer, your TV, your phone, your alarm system – basically anything that receives transmissions without a wire.
There s a condition known as electromagnetic hypersensitivity, still debated by doctors but as real as anything for the poor people who suffer from it. In a very, very tiny number of cases patients have reported a host of illnesses triggered by electromagnetic radiation – but if you’ve got ERH (electromagnetic radiation hypersensitivity) you won’t just be affected by cell phones – it will be everything.
In short: cell phones seem no more or less dangerous than anything else in the modern world. Just use them sensibly, like you would anything else.

Which SmartPhone Should You Choose?
In the world of smartphones, there are a lot of options to choose from. Picking your smartphone is an important decision because you’ll use it for such a significant portion of your day. Especially if you use your phone for work, it is important to have one that will meet all your needs. Even if you just use your smartphone to surf the web, communicate with friends, and entertain yourself, you want to pick a good one. It can be hard to navigate all the different features of the various choices, and it can be even more complicated with new versions coming out seemingly every other month. Here are three of the most popular smartphones, and their pros and cons to help you make a decision.
iPhone 4
The iPhone 4 is such a popular model smartphone, it’s hard to go wrong with it. There are over 200,000 apps you can download, and folders make it easy to organize them. The iPhone 4 is great to use for work or play, and it is a beloved Apple product. It even has a 5-megapixel camera with HD video, and the picture quality is probably better than your digital camera. It includes FaceTime, which lets you video chat. Drawbacks include that many people have problems with frequently dropped calls, and it doesn’t play Flash. The keypad on the screen can be hard to get used to at first. All in all, the iPhone 4 is a solid smartphone. If you want an iPhone, though, you might want to consider waiting for the release of the iPhone 5 in 2012, which will have many marked improvements and new features.
Motorola’s Droid X is another popular option with a lot of comparable features to the iPhone 4. It has HD video also, an equally fast processor, and an even better 8-megapixel camera. The keypad is also on screen, but a great feature allows you to just drag your finger from letter to letter versus tapping, which can be more time consuming. The display screen is bigger than the iPhone. There might not be as many apps available, but developers are making more every day. You might not have as many connections problems with the Droid X, but it is more prone to viruses. Regardless, this smartphone is a solid choice.
Blackberry Torch 9800
The Blackberry has been a staple for business professionals, and it’s certainly a great choice for anyone who relies on their phone for business purposes. It’s one of the best smartphones for multi-tasking, and it has a real QWERTY keypad to type on as well as a touch-screen. It doesn’t have as large a selection of apps, but you may not need them, anyway, if your main reason for needing a smartphone is to keep up with work when away from the office. A great feature of the Torch 9800 is that you can remotely wipe it of all data, in the event that your phone gets stolen or lost.
When choosing your smartphone, you will also want to consider your mobile carrier and available plans. The cost of plans will vary according to the amount of data you want to process. If you use your phone a great deal, an unlimited plan may be the right choice for you, so see if your carrier and smartphone combination will offer one.

Statistics showed that Samsung shipped a whopping 27.8 million smartphones in the three-month period, compared with 17.1 million from Apple and 16.8 million from Nokia.
Nokia was the top handset shipper with 27.3% in market share, followed by Samsung with 22.6% and LG with 5.4%. Could this be a real shift in power for Apple, after years of dominance in the smartphone market, and let’s face it, it’s a market they created, Apple appear to be slipping down the popularity list.
Samsung’s success has been driven by its adoption of Google’s Android software for both smartphones and tablets; it has also announced a new model, called the Galaxy Nexus, which it has built in direct collaboration with Google. Although it is one of Apple's largest suppliers of components, the two are also locked in an increasingly bitter legal battle over mobile phone patents.
According to Strategy Analytics, “Samsung’s rise has been driven by a blend of elegant hardware designs, popular Android services, memorable sub-brands and extensive global distribution. Samsung has demonstrated that it is possible, at least in the short term, to differentiate and grow by using the Android ecosystem.”
Overall, smartphones make up 44 per cent of the global mobile market, shipping 117 million units last quarter. Nokia remains the world’s largest phone maker overall, but their market share fell five percentage points to 27.3%, compared to Samsung with 22.6 per cent. ZTE is in fourth place, with Apple in fifth place overall.
The debate still rages about which smartphones are the best, but ultimately it come down to; what you are going to use it for, personal preference and price.
