The Blackberry Z10 has finally made its arrival, marching in loud and proud with the Blackberry 10 operating system accompanying it. The company hopes that this unit will be the one that will help rejuvenate sales to the company. The Z10 is a worthy competitor against other smart phones like the iPhone 5 and the Galaxy S3, but the truth is, the smart phone should be placed in the same category as the Nokia Lumia 920. This Windows 8 smart phone is quickly rising in the ranks toward smart phone superiority, and the Z10 could be the closest thing the 920 has to a contender. How do these two phones compare when it comes to specification?
Blackberry will automatically have a disadvantage to Apple and Samsung who have cemented their status. But, both the Z10 and the Lumia 920 can start with equal placement. Blackberry will encounter some fierce competition with the Windows 8 phone, and because both companies are transitioning into this arena, it will be interesting to see how they attempt to outperform each other.
The Showdown Begins With the Hardware
When you look at the specifications of these phones, they look incredibly similar. The Z10 and the Lumia 920 have the same dual core 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor. The phones also use the same of amount of pixel resolution, 1280x768. Nokia’s Lumia 920 does have a larger screen than the Z10 from Blackberry. The size of the 920’s touch screen is 4.5 inches, whereas the Z10’s is 4.2 inches. This difference in size automatically means that the images that appear on the Z10’s screen will appear sharper than those on the Nokia Lumia 920. These differences are barely noticeable to the average user, and Nokia has decided to step it up a notch. Users have the ability to use the Lumia 920’s touch screen with gloved fingers.
Although most of the dimensions are similar, it is important to note that the heaviness of the Lumia 920 has not been ignored. This mobile phone feels more like a brick rather than a phone when it is compared to the Z10. Blackberry’s Z10 weighs almost two ounces less than the 920 which is still not saying a lot especially when the Z10 weighs an ounce more than the iPhone 5.
Both Phones Are Trying To Make Names for Themselves
To help further distance themselves from Android and iOS systems, the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Blackberry Z10 have developed interesting features. The Windows 8 based phone has developed live tiles to take the place of ordinary icons on home screens. Blackberry has always been known as the messaging phone, and it decided to stick with this concept. The hub in the Z10 will place all of your messages in one convenient place so you can access them with ease.
The App Comparison
No one can deny that Apple has the majority when it comes to apps. Neither Nokia nor Blackberry can compare to the amount of apps that are under Apple’s brand. Even with the low availability of apps, the Lumia 920 still fares better than the Z10 with access to around 150,000 compared to 70,000 for Blackberry.
Although Apple and Android based smart phones seem to dominate the market, they are noticing their competition with the Nokia Lumia 920 and the Blackberry Z10.
