Data Breaches Affect Valuable Information

Data and security breaches do not just affect your business; they also have a direct impact on your customers and associates as well. Whether it is through stolen payment information, leaked passwords or a form of hacking, data breaches compromise the privacy of your customers and can potentially cause your business a loss of money and resources. According to a recent report, however, the cost of a data breach continues to decline for businesses. It is estimated that outsiders perpetrate 92 percent of breaches while seven percent involved multiple parties. These occur most often due to weak credentials, such as passwords that are easy to guess, or stolen login information from a database. Over half of all attacks involve some form of hacking. In order to prevent these attacks from happening to your business and consumers it is important to look into the security of your servers and information so that all of your vital data is protected at all times. You can learn more about data breaches and trends by reading through the infographic below.

Do You Know Where Your Website Lives And Therefore What Type of Web Hosting Setup You Have?

Do you know what the differences are between shared hosting , virtual private server hosting and dedicated server hosting? The first thing you might notice between each type of hosting arrangement that varies is the cost of each. Depending on your website's individual needs, you should consider which web hosting setup is best for you.

In order to best explain how hosting plans work, think of them as you would think of different types of residences. So, do you know where your website lives?

Shared hosting is like an apartment complex. The walls are thin, you can hear every bit of noise that your neighbor makes. For example, your neighbor's parties would be equivalent to sudden surges in traffic that consume shared resources, which can end up clogging up the entire building. This in turn would be like another website getting a lot of traffic and using up all the bandwidth in the shared server, which then affects your website.

Shared hosting typically has hundreds of accounts on a single server. The good thing about this type of hosting is that it's the most affordable, which means it's good for new webmasters or those with low amounts of traffic. This type of hosting is where most websites live.

Virtual private servers (VPSs) are like a set of townhouses next to each other. You have control over just about everything and you can furnish it whichever way you like so long as you're comfortable with sharing some utilities (services, in this case) with the rest of the building. Plus, the walls are a lot thicker, and if one building has a surge of traffic, it likely won't affect your website as much.

A VPS is like having a copy of your own machine remotely. One VPS server is shared by a smaller amount of people and thus this is a better option for those experiencing medium traffic. It's also more costly than shared hosting, but much less than a dedicated server.

Dedicated servers are like private houses where there's one building per property. The entire house is dedicated to you and you won't be bothered by anyone else. You can essentially build whatever you want as long as it complies with the local law.

A dedicated server is just that, it's dedicated just to you. There's no worries that a traffic surge on someone else's website who shares hosting with you will inadvertently take down your website nor the other way around. A dedicated server typically has the most powerful set of available resources, which makes it great for high traffic websites.

The History of Web Design

Follow @ryderskull88

The W3C was created in October 1994, to "lead the World Wide Web to its full potential by developing common protocols that promote its evolution and ensure its interoperability." This discouraged and one company from monopolizing a propriety browser and programming language, which could have altered the effect of the World Wide Web as a whole. The W3C continues to set standards, which can today be seen with JavaScript.

In 1994 Andreessen formed Mosaic Communications corp. That later became known as Netscape Communications the Netscape 0.9 browser. Netscape created its own HTML tags without regards to the traditional standards process. For example Netscape 1.1 included tags for changing background colours and formatting text with tables on web pages. Throughout 1996 to 1999 the browser wars began. The browser wars saw Microsoft and Netscape battle it out for the ultimate browser dominance. During this time there were many new technologies in the field, notably Cascading Style Sheets, JavaScript, and Dynamic HTML. On a whole the browser competition did lead to many positive creations and helped web design evolve at a rapid pace.

The Panda Update: One Year Later

Follow @ryderskull88

Google Panda was built through an algorithm update that used artificial intelligence in a more sophisticated and scalable way than previously possible. Human quality testers rated thousands of websites based on measures of quality, including design, trustworthiness, speed and whether or not they would return to the website. Google's new Panda machine-learning algorithm, made possible by and named after engineer Navneet Panda, was then used to look for similarities between websites people found to be high quality and low quality.

Many new ranking factors have been introduced to the Google algorithm as a result, while older ranking factors like PageRank have been downgraded in importance. Google Panda is updated from time to time and the algorithm is run by Google on regular basis.

What to Look for in an Anti-virus software?

Follow @ryderskull88

Antivirus or anti-virus software is used to prevent, detect, and remove malware, including but not limited to computer viruses, computer worms, trojan horses, spyware and adware. Computer security, including protection from social engineering techniques, is commonly offered in products and services of antivirus software companies. This page discusses the software used for the prevention and removal of malware threats, rather than computer security implemented by software methods.

No matter how useful antivirus software can be, it can sometimes have drawbacks. Antivirus software can impair a computer's performance. Inexperienced users may also have trouble understanding the prompts and decisions that antivirus software presents them with. An incorrect decision may lead to a security breach. If the antivirus software employs heuristic detection, success depends on achieving the right balance between false positives and false negatives. False positives can be as destructive as false negatives. Finally, antivirus software generally runs at the highly trusted kernel level of the operating system, creating a potential avenue of attack.
