Top Tips for Selecting Antivirus for PC Security

Listen

The importance of your Internet Security:

The internet has re-invented the whole way in which we interact with each other; the world has shrunk into a global village thanks to the internet and now people sitting in distant countries can share stuff with each other simultaneously. But with all this access, there also comes the potential for abuse.

The internet makes you incredibly vulnerable to external threats and exposes you to the risk of losing your personal information like credit card and banking data. Hackers can gain excess to your most intimate personal information by tricking you to click on certain links that take you to fake websites or initiate the download of dangerous viruses, thus the purpose of antivirus software at its most basic; implies the following three steps:

1. An antivirus should be able to scan for any viruses that may be lying stagnant in your system and remove them before they have a chance of doing any apparent lasting damage to your files.

2. The ideal antivirus should have a vast database of known virus signatures, as well as capabilities of getting regular updates so new viruses are constantly added.

3. It should also be able to recognize an incoming virus and promptly warn you of infiltration before the virus can actually infest and multiply, thus allowing you the opportunity to nip it in the bud.

Top Tips for Buying a suitable Antivirus:

We can already see from the previous section that antivirus software(s) are very important for ensuring internet and PC Security. There are thousands of antiviruses to choose from, you can base your selection criteria on the following tips, as they will help you in deciding which antivirus might be suitable for your requirement:

1. There are generally two kinds of antivirus available online; Free and Paid Versions. The free versions of established antivirus lack certain features, but most of them are adequate for use on home PCs. Paid versions are rich in features and offer premium services that are suitable for corporate applications.

2. The ideal antivirus should have an extensive virus database which enlists all the major and common viruses found on the internet.

3. The antivirus should also have capabilities for regular updates too since there are hundreds of new viruses surfacing on the internet every day. A regularly updated virus database will ensure that your antivirus is properly equipped for diagnosing newer viruses too.

4. The perfect antivirus should be able to distinguish genuine threats from easily avoidable ones, dealing with common ones on its own and only notify you of the most serious ones. You don’t want to be bombarded with hundreds of notifications every day.

5. The software should also be able to register any unusual system files that may be as a result of some undetected virus.

6. The antivirus should not impair your PC’s performance, and offer (as needed) options of securely scanning individual folders, instead of having to run a full system’s check every time, which is time-consuming.
