Advantages & Disadvantages of PPC advertising

Stuart Henderson, a Canadian-based historian, rightly points out - doing business without proper advertisements is the same as winking at a girl in the dark. Only you know what you‘ve done, others don’t.

When it comes to Internet marketing, the goal is to achieve a decent position in the search engine for specific keywords. In other words, when customers online, search for a specific keywords or phrases, you would want them to be landing on your website. This can be achieved by some smart SEO work that will rank your website on the first page of a search engine.

The PPC or Pay Per Click is one method introduced by Google for ranking your website. As a matter of fact, everything is not green about the PPC advertising. This method has its own merits and demerits as pointed out below.

Advantages and Disadvantages of PPC

• PPC works faster than any other conventional methods. It can bring in visitors to your website in a matter of hours.

Maximizes your traffic: Bloggers and website owners develop their sites by publishing the text ads along with other affiliate programs. Your advertisement will be posted online and will reach millions of visitors within a week or month depending on your everyday budget.

The Trust Factor: When you use the organic SEO method to develop your website, you may never be sure of a great position in the search engine. It does not matter even if you have the world’s best contents in your website, it still may not prove its worth if your SEO is done badly. Your competitors are paying heavy on PPC and the search engine will bring up several other websites that are in the same niche as yours.

The Stability Factor: Billions of websites try to make it big by fighting for a position on the search engine’s top page. To achieve this, a lot of shortcut techniques are attempted to cheat or beat the search engine rules. When these attempts fail, websites are penalized sometimes to the extent of not being indexed. But this is not the same in the case of Pay Per Click method. As long as you are paying, you will be safe and will continue to top the search engine results.

As mentioned earlier, everything is not clean about the PPC advertising.

The Cost Factor: Pay Per Click can prove to be very costly. It works by making online visitors click on advertisements. Such clicks can be very expensive and new users might be charged more.

Click Fraud: A popular search engine terminology you might have come across many times, happens in the case of PPC or text ads. Some publishers will click ads on their own websites in an attempt to make more money, while others will get their friends and families to do it. This may result in users being banned from the company.

Results of accidental clicks: Accidently clicking on ads can also grab your money. Lots of visitors assume that text ads are part of the actual website and click on them. On realizing their mistake, they immediately close the window without paying attention to it. Hence you would be losing money without gaining a new reader or customer.

In spite of paying PPC heavily, there is no guarantee that you will make money through the accrued clicks. Every click may not really translate into sales.

• As there are number of large companies with big budgets making use of the PPC service, it has become very competitive and difficult for small and medium business owners.

To sum up, PPC is a great tool for advertising but one has to do their homework before using it. Traffic analysis, search volume and many other key indicators are to be studied in detail. As the saying goes - success is a ladder that cannot be climbed with your hands in the pocket.

Don't Fear the Phone

If you take almost any job in any office around the world, then answering the phone is likely to play at least a small part in what you do on a day to day basis. It is very important that you know how to answer the phone so that you might be able to help the business to answer business inquiries and to provide customer support and the more people the company has to do this for them the better service they will be able to provide for their customers.

However at the same time you are also likely to make a certain amount of calls. The reason for this is that you will be trying to sell, or getting information or communicating with clients, and there are countless reasons why we make calls when we are part of a business.

So if you are running your own business online, whether that means just running a website or doing some more involved, then you really should be doing the same thing and using the telephone on a regular basis to communicate.

Why Aren't You Calling?

If you aren’t using the phone to help promote your business and create new opportunities then there are probably several reasons why. The first reason might be simply that it hadn’t occurred to you – with so many ways to contact people online and so many online marketing opportunities. Perhaps you simply haven’t considered the vast benefits of making phone calls? Don’t worry – we’re about to look at all the reasons you should be on the phone here so you will be brought up to speed on why you need to involve the phone in your business strategy.

At the same time though you might also be avoiding using the phone out of fear. Perhaps you don’t consider your business to be ‘proper’ or perhaps you just don’t like talking to people on the phone. This is all very understandable, and it’s a common problem, but there’s only one way to get over it – and that’s to get in there and start making the calls now.

Why Should You Be Calling?

So why is it so useful to get on the phone if your business is one that is entirely run online? Well first of all, communicating by phone is simply faster and more effective as a way to get results. Let’s say that you want to trade links with a website. If that website is a small outfit that’s run by one or two people then sure, go ahead and send them a reciprocal link request and they might just agree to swap links. If however that site is a big PR6 site that has offices and a professional registered business name, then chances are they will be simply inundated with such requests. If you send an e-mail that will simply get caught in their spam filter, or it will be ignored or deleted. In order to get noticed you need to take a more direct approach. By calling you make yourself appear more professional and you can’t be ignored. At the same time you get results faster and waste less time.

Don’t just try going for reciprocal link exchanges though, but meanwhile try to get links in other ways. Ring up for instance and tell a news site that your website is newsworthy and that you would like to do an interview. Another benefit of using the phone is that it allows you to contact magazines. Look for niche magazines that you can use to promote yourself and ask them to write a story on your website – you’d be surprised how many will give you a positive response.

You can also get advertisers for your site this way. Companies are used to being phoned by sales executives selling advertising space, so if you can quote them some good statistics in terms of views a day etc, you might be able to get a good deal.

The Panda Update: One Year Later

Follow @ryderskull88

Google Panda was built through an algorithm update that used artificial intelligence in a more sophisticated and scalable way than previously possible. Human quality testers rated thousands of websites based on measures of quality, including design, trustworthiness, speed and whether or not they would return to the website. Google's new Panda machine-learning algorithm, made possible by and named after engineer Navneet Panda, was then used to look for similarities between websites people found to be high quality and low quality.

Many new ranking factors have been introduced to the Google algorithm as a result, while older ranking factors like PageRank have been downgraded in importance. Google Panda is updated from time to time and the algorithm is run by Google on regular basis.

Infographics: Google Panda in Plain English

Google Panda is a change to the Google's search results ranking algorithm that was first released in February 2011 . The change aimed to lower the rank of "low-quality sites", and return higher-quality sites near the top of the search results. CNET reported a surge in the rankings of news websites and social Networking sites, and a drop in rankings for sites containing large amounts of advertising. This change reportedly affected the rankings of almost 12 percent of all search results.

Soon after the Panda roll-out, many websites, including Google's webmaster forum, became filled with complaints of scrapers/copyright inf-ringers getting better rankings than sites with original content. At one point, Google publicly asked for data points  to help detect scrapers better. Google's Panda has received several updates since the original roll-out in February 2011, and the effect went global in April 2011. To help affected publishers, Google published an advisory on its blog, thus giving some direction for self-evaluation of a website's quality.

3 Best Programs to Help with Your Web Design

Designing a website is a very difficult thing to do. Once you sit down and have a real idea of what you actually want to accomplish, you need to have a handle on the programs you’re using as well. If you aren’t tech-savvy enough to really go in-depth with your tool-set, you’ll be behind with your design before you even started. The most important thing to do is pick the most appropriate programs so you’re not wasting your time. If you’re interested in programs that will appeal to just about anyone, whether you’re an expert designer or just a beginner, this list will help you out big time.

Adobe Dreamweaver

This program is considered, and has been considered for a long time, as the benchmark by which all web design programs are measured. With an array of tools that appeal to beginners and master designers alike, Dreamweaver is just about the perfect program for anyone looking to design a website themselves. The only downside is that there is a steep learning curve with this program due to all of the tools you need to get a hang of. But once you get comfortable with the interface, you’ll be creating beautiful and dynamic sites like a pro.

Microsoft Expression Web 4

Expression Web is the other major web design program on the market. While not quite as popular as Dreamweaver, it’s still a major component of the web design field. While Dreamweaver is great for just about everything besides certain programming languages, Expression Web picks up the slack in its support of the other major programming languages. Expression Web also has a much cleaner interface when compared to Dreamweaver, which may entice beginners. Even though it has less of a learning curve, it is still a very powerful design tool for designing NY Volkswagen websites, for example.

Adobe Photoshop

1    You’ll need this program to get professional images and layouts on your site. If you’ve ever done CSS (cascading style sheets), Photoshop will definitely help you design great looking designs. If you’re unfamiliar with how this program works, it’ll take a little while to get acclimated with it, but once you do, it’ll be your best friend. Since you’re developing a great site with some of the best tools out there, you might as well finish the look with professional styling and imaging.

With these programs, you’ll be able to create some unbelievable websites in only a matter of time. All it takes is dedication and a bit of time to learn them. You can check out online classifieds if you need help learning about them.
