Razer Shows Off 'Edge' Windows 8 Gaming Tablet

Razer has announced the launch of Razer Edge gaming tablet at the CES in Las Vegas. At the heart of Razer Edge Tablet is the 10.1 inch display making it one of the most comfortable for playing games. Edge runs on Windows 8. It has the feeling of a laptop plus it has the ability to play any games, even those made for laptops, personal computers and exclusive gaming consoles. Razer Edge is powered an Intel Core processor and the graphics are by Nvidia. The processor is i5 and has 4GB of RAM to give all the power required for a tablet. Included is also a 64 GB solid drive. There is also another instance of the Razer running on Core i7 CPU and RAM capacity of 128 GB which can be upgraded to 256 GB SD.

Though powered by impressive hardware, you will need to have lots of add-ons to get a rich experience. The Pro version can be bought with the Gamepad controller package with analog sticks and feed back for vibration. However, the cost is a little on the higher side. You can also add peripherals like for example a keyboard and what appears to be like an illuminated key. In addition there are 3 USB ports and a HDMI port for connecting the device to High Definition television. The original battery fitted to Razer Edge has a meager life time and requires frequent charging. Battery life can go down further if you attach a keyboard or other peripheral devices. If you want extra battery life, then the only option is to buy some additional equipment.

It may be remembered that Razer Edge was originally introduced as Project Fiona and it is only now that it has been renamed. The Edge is typically a low to midrange device. In form factor, the Edge is at least two times as thick as the iPad but weighs proportionately lesser for its size. So users get a feel that it is a light device. Much though has gone into the designing of the Edge and that can be gauged from the fact a lot of time has been spent on understanding user needs. What you may not like about the design is that the device cannot be opened for making upgrades. In simple terms it means you get stuck to specifications for the lifetime of the device.

One of the major selling points in favor of the Edge is not focused on gaming alone. In fact, it has functionalities that help to be used as computing device. So you just be able to use it for accessing email and browsing the internet as well. Performance wise too, the Razer Edge has been found to be satisfactory. Most user who tried the device think that that the underside of the device heats up when used for playing high end games, though none said it was unbearable.

There are some downsides to the Edge besides the high price and the full complement of additional equipment it needs for gaming. When the device is on your lap you sure will find it comfortable, but when you have to handle it can be troublesome with the other peripheral device, and that was very much evident at the CES. The Edge can also be connected through the Bluetooth, giving it wireless abilities. On the whole, however it is more or less a decent solution for those who are looking for a device for gaming as well as for computing. Since the gadget provides enough connectivity ports, those who have other attachable devices with them already can choose the Edge and save substantially.

How Do Computer Programmers Write Code?

Computer programmers are a vital workforce. Computers are an indispensable tool in today’s society, but few of us ever spare a though to the unnoticed few who plan, design, write, test, debug, rewrite, and maintain the software that keeps the digital age running at the light speed that it is today. 

Programmers are the people who literally write the program code that gets interpreted by a machine, executed on its processor and then displayed as output for all to see: but when somebody says they’re a programmer most of us cower away in awe and confusion. Programs interact with our promotional USB devices, or manipulate our photos, or browse the web and they literally breathe life into our computers. What exactly is a programmer? What do they do? What is programming?

Programming, literally, is the term used to describe making the program that will run on a computer. Common computer programs will include the operating system and kernel (to an extent), as well as the web browser, the office suite and text editor, and even computer games. The step from an engineer coming up with an idea to us double clicking it on a promotional USB flash drive or CD is a big one, so let’s examine in a bit more detail how a computer program might come into existence.

Generally, it will start with an idea for a program. This could include a simple computer game, or something as complicated as software which runs on trading indexes in stock exchanges. The most common things for a programmer or engineer to think about when he’s planning his program will include what input is given, what process needs to happen and what the output needs to look like. A basic example might be a word processor. Here the computer program will take in information, or input, in the form of key presses. It will then process that information, or in this case turn the key presses into digital signals which can then be saved, deleted or processed more. Finally, output of a word processor might include displaying the text on a monitor, or sending the document to a printer.

Once the idea is fixed in a computer programmer’s head, he might use flow charts and other tools to start to plan and design how his program might work, in terms of data flows, input and output, among other things. Then, when he’s got a rough idea of how it all needs to look, he’ll begin to ‘program’, or write the program code. Programs are usually written in languages, such as C++, Java, Python, C# or Ruby. Program languages are literally just that, a ‘language’ of instructions which provide a link between the human and the computer. Program languages are ‘human-readable’, to the extent that humans can understand them, but rather than tell a story or detail an event program languages relay instructions; like ‘if this happens do this’ or ‘when this happens do this and get rid of this’. To back-up safely and ensure no loss of work, a programmer may use a custom USB memory stick and limit the risk of not being able to open files if the computer were to fail.

When the programmer has written his code, he either compiles it (if the language he’s chosen to write in needs compiling) or executes it directly into the debugger. Here, the debugger will look for mistakes or inefficiencies in his program code, which the programmer can then rectify before saving his finished code. Some computer programs will consist of millions of lines of code; which will tell the computer everything from how to install a program and to what to do when the shutdown command is sent. Programmers are found the world over and are a very, very important occupation.

Computer 101: How to Create a Back-up of your files. Windows Native Back-Up

On my post we blog about the need for back-up and the needed things for back-up. Now lets blog about how to back-up you files on your own. First for Windows user, windows system has already a native back-up system in place so you don't need to use another software or tool to back-up you files.Yes they are generous enough to place a back-up tools for the individual user like us. Please see picture below for more information.

Please note the red encircle part, it's said "This option will back up files in volume." Okay what was that? Don't be scared by it. It just telling us that this is the back-up tool for you files. Also the volumes means all your files will be back-up at the same time even the ones you are using. Now how do you get to this part. well its basically easy. First step go to the My Computer  and click or double click it, either way you'll arrived at the same spot. Next the picture on the background will appear. That the inside of the My Computer. Now for the third step choose the hard drive you going to back-up and do a mouse right click. Now to make it clear i have inserted another picture to guide you.

Now do you see clearly on the image, my apologies for the smaller images previously. See the pull-down menu, on the bottom part click the Properties tab and the first picture above will appear. Now click on the Back-up Now Button to begin the back-up process. You can play with it if you are not yet comfortable in using the this tool. Playing with it also enhances your knowledge on what to select on the different menu and options once you started the back-up process. Try to setup a group of files for test back-up so you will know all the options, before you start on your real file back-up process. Don't be intimidated by it, once you learn how to do it, then you'll begin to use it more and more. Go ahead and try it.
