How To Use A Laptop In The Sunlight

What can be worse than having to sit in the office or work indoors when the sun is out and everyone is enjoying the warm weather?

Having to rely on a full battery whilst using your laptop outdoors can be a very frustrating experience as battery life can dramatically reduce and the sun’s glare crates poor visibility and eye strain. So how can you work comfortably outdoors during poor visibility due to the bright sunlight?

Have A Strategy

If you are planning to work outdoors then plan a strategy. Remember all the equipment that you will need and position yourself so that you are sitting facing the sun rather than with your back to it. This will reduce the glare onto your LCD screen any by turning the brightness up this will give you a better chance of visibility although it will reduce your battery at a quicker rate. Have an extension cord at the ready and a mains power source nearby.

Wear the Correct Clothing

By investing in a pair of sunglasses and wearing a baseball cap or a hat with a brim you can greatly improve your chances of visibility. Although it may sound counter-intuitive, by wearing black clothing the light will be absorbed and it will prevent sunlight from being reflected on to your screen.

Laptop Health & Safety

Your laptop faces potential damages if it is kept in direct sunlight for a large amount of time. The internal components can often melt or become deformed and this combined with the heat of the internal fan can be fatal. It can sometimes be common for laptops to buckle under long periods of direct heat and this can severely affect the hard drive.

You may want to invest in an adjustable stand which will allow shielding from the sun whilst enabling you to work. Some stands even come with an in-built cooling fan which will keep your device cool in the hottest temperatures.

Additional Laptop Accessories

There are a variety of accessories on the market that will improve your screens visibility as well as your work efficiency.

By purchasing a laptop with a matte finish instead of a glossy finish, you will no longer have any issues with completing your work outdoors. One option is to purchase an anti-glare screen filter which can be temporarily placed over your screen. Alternatively, you can go the ultra-cheap way and insert your laptop into a cardboard box. By cutting out two sides of the box you get an effective sunshield – although it may look a little odd!

Whichever methods you choose make sure to keep your laptop safe and out of direct sunlight.

Infographics: The People's Tech TakeOver

A digital camera (or digicam) is a camera that takes video or still photographs, or both, digitally by recording images via an electronic image sensor. It is the main device used in the field of digital photography. Most 21st century cameras are digital.Digital cameras are incorporated into many devices ranging from PDAs and mobile phones (called camera phones) to vehicles. The Hubble Space Telescope and other astronomical devices are essentially specialized digital cameras.

Digital cameras can do things film cameras cannot: displaying images on a screen immediately after they are recorded, storing thousands of images on a single small memory device, and deleting images to free storage space. The majority, including most compact cameras, can record moving video with sound as well as still photographs. Some can crop and stitch pictures and perform other elementary image editing. Some have a GPS receiver built in, and can produce Geo-tagged photographs.

Why LCD is a Better Option than Traditional TVs?

Since a few years ago, LCD’s and flat screens monitors have been introduced in markets and have proved to be a great success as for having a great number of built in advantages in them. Here are a number of advantages of LCD's for the techno lovers which can never enjoy in case of having a traditional TV set:

Offer Brighter Display: The LCD display works in s different way than the traditional televisions or monitors which use tubes to create the displays while the LCD’s use pixels therefore giving a brighter display.

Save Energy and Save Bills: Another great advantage of LCD is that it consumes much low power then the traditional TV which has estimated to be 65% less than TV so it is more environments friendly as well as save your bills.

Slim and Sleek in Design: the LCD’s are slim and sleek in design up to 9 inches so it can be easily placed anywhere conveniently. The slim design is also attractive for the buyers.

Wall Hanging Design: LCD’s are thin so that they are easily mountable on the walls like pictures and you does not need any special trolleys or sands as for the traditional TV’s.

An Understanding of LCD TV Terms:

When you go to buy an LCD, you will be a number of terms which you come across in the market which you need to understand to choose the good option.

Aspect Ratio: The aspect ratio is what determines the suitability of the TV to watch movies and videos in true widescreen format. Normal televisions have the aspect ratio of 3:4 while the LCD’s have the aspect ratio of 6:19 therefore providing a good widescreen picture making it best to watch DVD and VHS movies along with other television programming.

Candela: Candela is the unit that determines the brightness and it is actually the number of units that are required to produce the same intensity of light.

Contrast Ratio: Contrast ratio is the degree of variation between the darkest spot and the brightest spot on the screen. The higher the ratio the clearer and shaper would be the screen image.

High Definition TV: High definition TV or HDTV is a term increasingly being used to know the standard of the LCD TV signals. So it would be wise to choose a HDTV for you.

Desired Inputs: If you love to watch movies and use DVD players, game consoles or computers etc then look for the one having a great number of inputs in your device so as to make it use in a variety of ways.

Appropriate TV Tuner: A TV tuner is required to tune to receive the signals coming in. usually most TVs lack such tuners and therefore they use the cable box or the re signal devices for their TV so make sure LCD has the appropriate tuner as well as the necessary equipment.

Quality of Accessories: It is essential that the accessories such as cables that you use to connect to other devices such as DVD or VCD players or computers should of high quality to get the good results ultimately.

Price of the LCD: It is also important that you choose the best price around the market. Therefore it is recommended to have a thorough survey of the market as well as reading the online comments and prices for the specific product you are opting.

And last but not the least come your ability to play the different TV signals successfully. Different parts of the world use different TV signals formats so it is worthwhile choosing a TV with a multi-system so as to utilize the maximum opportunities. Computer Hardware Familiarization Part-5.

For part 5 of this post we now go into the external components of the computer hardware. We three primary items for these post, the monitor, pointing device and keyboard.

The Computer monitor

A monitor or display (also called screen or visual display unit) is an electronic visual display for computers. The monitor comprises the display device, circuitry, and an enclosure. The display device in modern monitors is typically a thin film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) thin panel, while older monitors use a cathode ray tube about as deep as the screen size.

Originally, computer monitors were used for data processing while television receivers were used for entertainment. From the 1980s onwards, computers (and their monitors) have been used for both data processing and entertainment, while televisions have implemented some computer functionality. The common aspect ratio of televisions, and then computer monitors, has also changed from 4:3 to 16:9.

The first computer monitors used cathode ray tubes (CRT). Until the early 1980s, they were known as video display terminals and were physically attached to the computer and keyboard. The monitors were monochrome, flickered and the image quality was poor In 1981, IBM introduced the Color Graphics Adapter, which could display four colors with a resolution of 320 by 200 pixels. In 1984 IBM introduced the Enhanced Graphics Adapter which was capable of producing 16 colors and had a resolution of 640 by 350.

CRT remained the standard for computer monitors through the 1990s. CRT technology remained dominant in the PC monitor market into the new millennium partly because it was cheaper to produce and offered viewing angles close to 180 degrees.

Liquid Crystal Display

There are multiple technologies that have been used to implement Liquid Crystal Displays (LCDs). Throughout the 1990s the primary use of LCD technology as computer monitors was in laptops where the lower power consumption, lighter weight, and smaller physical size of LCDs justified the higher price versus a CRT. Commonly, the same laptop would be offered with an assortment of display options at increasing price points (active or passive) monochrome, passive color, active matrix color (TFT). As volume and manufacturing capability have improved the monochrome and passive color technologies were dropped from most product lines.

The pointing device

A pointing device is an input interface (specifically a human interface device) that allows a user to input spatial (i.e., continuous and multi-dimensional) data to a computer. CAD systems and graphical user interfaces (GUI) allow the user to control and provide data to the computer using physical gestures — point, click, and drag — for example, by moving a hand-held mouse across the surface of the physical desktop and activating switches on the mouse. Movements of the pointing device are echoed on the screen by movements of the pointer (or cursor) and other visual changes.

While the most common pointing device by far is the mouse, many more devices have been developed. A "rodent" is a technical term referring to a device which generates mouse-like input. However, the term "mouse" is commonly used as a metaphor for devices that move the cursor.

The mouse is the most common representation of the computer pointing device. Most of us point to the mouse as the only pointing device, but based on the picture above pointing  cane vary in size and form. Another type of pointing device that is similar to the mouse is the Trackball.

A trackball is a pointing device consisting of a ball housed in a socket containing sensors to detect rotation of the ball about two axes, similar to an upside-down mouse: as the user rolls the ball with a thumb, fingers, or palm the pointer on the screen will also move. Tracker balls are commonly used on CAD workstations for ease of use, where there may be no desk space on which to use a mouse. Some are able to clip onto the side of the keyboard and have buttons with the same functionality as mouse buttons. There are also wireless trackballs which offer a wider range of ergonomic positions to the user.

The computer keyboard

In computing, a keyboard is a typewriter-style keyboard, which uses an arrangement of buttons or keys, to act as mechanical levers or electronic switches. Following the decline of punch cards and paper tape, interaction via teleprinter-style keyboards became the main input device for computers.
Despite the development of alternative input devices, such as the mouse, touchscreen, pen devices, character recognition and voice recognition, the keyboard remains the most commonly used and most versatile device used for direct (human) input into computers.

A keyboard typically has characters engraved or printed on the keys and each press of a key typically corresponds to a single written symbol. However, to produce some symbols requires pressing and holding several keys simultaneously or in sequence. While most keyboard keys produce letters, numbers or signs (characters), other keys or simultaneous key presses can produce actions or computer commands.

Standard "full-travel" alphanumeric keyboards have keys that are on three-quarter inch centers (0.750 inches, 19.05 mm), and have a key travel of at least 0.150 inches (3.81 mm). Desktop computer keyboards, such as the 101-key US traditional keyboards or the 104-key Windows keyboards, include alphabetic characters, punctuation symbols, numbers and a variety of function keys. The internationally common 102/105 key keyboards have a smaller 'left shift' key and an additional key with some more symbols between that and the letter to its right (usually Z or Y). Also the 'enter' key is usually shaped differently. Computer keyboards are similar to electric-typewriter keyboards but contain additional keys. Standard USB keyboards can also be connected to some non-desktop devices.

We are now almost complete in our familiarization series post about the basic computer hardware. My next will tackle some hardware accessories that you might be interested to really dress up your computer.

Three of the Most Influential Gadgets of All Time Part 1.

Back in the early days we were able to send our voice thru the air and hear them thru a very remarkable gadget known as the Radio. With the Radio the news and information can now be heard and delivered a lot faster in your living room. All sort of show was born and a lot of widely popular singer was first marketed or heard thru the radio.

With the use of the radio, we can now hear song, commentaries, news and some other information that was using the radio at that particular time. Even with the coming of the television the radio was never totally replace but instead it continues to reach people where the television signal cannot reach or the actual gadgets or TV set is still beyond the reach of a buying capability of a person. While the radio is cheap and very light compare to the television which is for a tie is big and bulky.

Then came the world of visual where now the news anchor can be seen in person or the singer of the song as well can be seen not just heard. This is now possible with the development of the Television. At first it was all black and white then the explosion of color came thru our living room with the advent of colored television. Now we two of the most influential gadgets in our time the radio and television. Together hand and hand these two gadgets has become the bearer of information from it live point. The color television usher in a new era of programming for each type of show that can be televise.

There was the politics national or local, entertainment which covers a lot of area and has one of the most numbers of followers. Then there was the world of sport and all sorts of them was broadcasted or can be seen thru the television. The there is news and information, from weather report to Wall Street. All those type of information was freely being sent directly to us to our living room everyday and every night.

We though what could be the next gadgets that would top these two, at first the most influential of them all was develop separately. This gadget was a result of the combination of the two gadgets mention above but also of several other gadgets that we have develop separately and is very useful to us individually. The first of these gadgets was the camera from its early days of black and white picture to using negative to develop the picture to instant picture via the Polaroid camera where we can take the picture and after a few minute here comes the picture no more waiting days, before we could see the result. Then from still camera the moving camera came where with these gadgets we can capture an activity where the gadgets records the whole event not just a single moment of it. Imagine seeing your younger self over and over again playing or doing what you really like back then. The camera was indeed very useful by itself.

Dealing with All the Deals: From an Online Review to an HP Coupon

There are so many different types of televisions, mp3 players, and laptops available to consumers. Sometimes it seems like there should be a channel dedicated to all the different types of TVs you can pick up. Should you buy one with HDMI capabilities, one that is LCD, or one that is Plasma? And while we're at it, what the heck is HDMI? Which brands should you trust? There are also so many “deals” out there, how can you be sure you're getting a bargain? And if you use an HP coupon to buy a new laptop, will it really save you? Fortunately for you, there are a few web sites that make shopping surprisingly easy and give you the satisfaction of knowing that you are truly paying a fair price.

The last thing you want to do is give someone a Christmas gift that turns out to be a flat screened, Blu-Ray capable, fancy shmancy lump of coal. The best way to ensure that this does not happen is to do your due diligence before making the purchase. Before you ever step foot in a store, search for something on eBay or do research on a company's products. You will want to know what you are looking for. Ask yourself what you're trying to buy. Are you willing to pay for a television that is HDMI equipped (by the way, "HDMI" stands for "high definition multimedia interface," which basically means it makes your movies and TV look awesome). Do you want a television that has Blu-Ray capabilities? Do you want one with 3D capabilities? What kind of special limitations do you have for the television? Make note of what features you want, and be sure you're not paying for features you won't use.

Next, look at a site like Consumerreports.org or Ratings.net. The latter site allows users to create reviews of products they've purchased. Look up the product you are interested in, and see how each brand stacked up in each of the areas that are important to you. Is the HDMI connection located in an inconvenient place? Was it impossible to get an actual human on the line for customer service?

Of course, price is going to be a point of interest to just about any shopper, so once you figure out what brand you believe to be the most reliable, figure out which stores sell that brand's products the cheapest. There are many websites that are dedicated to scouring the internet to find the best discounts on the best products. Take advantage of one of these sites to help you in your quest for quality savings.

If you know what you want, and you know how to utilize the resources at your fingertips, you can find the best deals on everything from DVD players to dishwashers. The only trick is to know what you want, who is the best at providing that, and where to find the best price for it. With those few tips in mind, you can start saving right now!

Computer 101: What is a Video Card?

A video card or video graphics adapter is a computer hardware device that processes all the things that can be seen via the monitor or LCD device. It processes all those binary information and output them through the monitor of LCD which the user can see. Back in the early days of the computer the video cards cannot completely process all those information that need to be seen by the user. The main processing is still done via the CPU or the Central Processing Unit of the computer. All the video could do is to output the data via the monitor and with the help of the bigger memory built in them it can make the output a lot nicer compare to a standard size memory amount of a built in video card.

In those early days most stand alone video card can have a memory capacity of 2, 4, 8, 16 and 32 megabytes of memory while the high end video card can have as much as 128 or 256 megabytes of memory. Also early types of video cards do not have a GPU or Graphics Processor Unit. This early GPU comes only with the high end type and since they have GPU, it has its own cooling fan attach on top of it.

The same is still true for today’s latest video card, most of them have those GPU for faster processing and they can also have a large amount of memory installed. This is the standard video of today they can have up to 1 gigabytes of memory. For high end graphics application such CAD/CAM processing and video rendering, CGI rendering and all other professional application the video has evolve in such a manner those they can be compare to a regular desktop computer in terms of pricing and characteristics. Objects that need to be manipulated and edited via software that requires the video card to let the editor see and work on the finer detail of the images, they can response faster and better to the application that uses them. They let the graphics editor or designer to see all the aspect of the image that they are working on.

ATI FireGL Graphical cardImage via Wikipedia

High end video card has more power and characteristics to offer compare to conventional video cards that has a standard GPU and amount of memory installed in them. Another application of a high end video card is in gaming. People who plays games that uses heavy graphics processing needs high end video cards or else they would not be able to appreciate the game they are playing. There will be a lot of contortions and graphics folding and drag which would lead to hardware crashes because the hardware cannot handle the needed amount of graphics they the software is trying to feed it. LAN games which would require several computers link together would slow down because the video cards cannot cope up with the intense amount of bits being use by the software.

video_cardImage by marklinkphoto via Flickr

Okay which choosing the right video for your need make sure to read the box and information that pertains to that video card. Gone are the days that only large amount of memory and a GPU is the main requirement in buying a Video Card for your system. Remember every hardware in your computer must work together for you to have an enjoyable use of your computer. You may buy the very latest in this video card but if it will not cooperate with the rest of the hardware and software in your computer than that video card is called trash become it wasted money and time. So read and check all the information before your buy one for upgrade or replacement.

Computer 101: Parts on the Outside Part-1

Hello I hope your day is going fine, hope your in good health. Okay we will start on a blog series that will tackle on the computer hardware parts on the outside and on the inside. a lot of people who uses computer for almost everything don't have the time to know what's on the outside and what is on the inside of this very important machine.First of all i assume everyone knows what a computer look's like. Lately it has taken on a lot of very different shape and sizes and function but on this series of blog we will focus on the Desktop Computer, the first computer which was tailored made for offices, leisure spot, activity center and many more and of course your own home sweet home. Still remember your first computer, what was the specification of that? how big is the Monitor. What was the speed of the processor, how large was the hard drive and the memory. What was the color. How did you feel when your parents bought you your first computer. I'm sure you have a lot of memories regarding that time.

To start with the computer is made up several key component during it early years. They are the Monitor, Central Processing Unit, the keyboard, the mouse (pointing device) and also we have the printer. This was the basic parts ohhh I almost forgot, the speaker and microphone. The Monitor is your basic output devices, this is where we see what we are doing. The monitor is our windows to the uses and function of the computer. From CRT technology to thin LCD upto LED and HD technology monitor of today. The main basic difference of the monitor today than its ancestor is the size, another is the power consumption. Your old CRT monitor eats a lot of power when in use. But todays, LCD and LED screen eats smaller electricity even on if left open for a long time. Another big savings for the LCD/LED screen is the space the old CRT uses. Just imagine a 19" inch Desktop CRT of even bigger and compare it to the space needed for the LCD/LED screen.

Keyboard

Numeric Keypad

Now let's go to the keyboard, there not much difference from the keyboard of the old days to the keyboard of today. It's basically the same design from the old model up to the new and latest model. There may be a few enhancement here and there, soft keys, hand rest to name a few enhancement. But still it is the same keyboard even if the wireless model and folding keyboard. The keyboard is the main input devices that is attached to the computer. It's like a type writer without the loud sounds. This is what we used to type documents and fill-out electronic forms online. This is also were we controlled our computer if it hangs, we pressed three keys to restart it. To access CMOS setup content and menu we press certain during the boot-up process. If your want to view process on your computer under windows we press certain key combination. For editing of document we also access the keyboard, especially for the people who uses the shortcut method of accessing all the function of the word processing software. The most ordinary keyboard will not function properly if water or liquid is poured into it. Buy some high-end type have built in protection for this kind of substance if accidentally spill into it.

Mouse with a lighted Scroll Wheel

Next is the Mouse or you pointing device. Just like the keyboard the mouse has changed little ever since it was introduced in it's early days. From mouse with balls used for arrow movement to the infrared and scroll mouse of today. Basically it's the same design even the wireless one. There are also other type of pointing device used in computer, the track ball which has the ball on the upside not under. all mouse are still susceptible to the wear and there of the parts inside it just like the keyboard. If a key is used more often than the other chances are that key will be the first to be depressed.

Infrared Mouse tracker

The nest item is the CPU or the Central Processing Unit, or the System Unit. It's be called by a lot of names. But we been referring to the same thing when it come to the computer. Well its better to talk about it on my next post. I'll be adding a couple of picture here as soon as i can.
