SIM Only Or Phone And SIM Contract?

For many, this is the big debate they need to settle. They would like a top quality technologically advanced mobile phone. At the same time, they realise that the SIM only contract might actually be the better option. The reality is that there are pros and cons to each. Different people will be suited to different deals and different types of contracts. Of course, a lot of this will come down to how much cash is available.

What Is Your Budget?

The first thing to consider is budget. If you have a budget of around £50 per month, you are going to get a fairly impressive phone contract. Expect to get one of the top phones on the market as part of your package, thousands of minutes, texts and plenty of download time. Of course, not everyone wants to pay this much. A similar package on a SIM only contract might be £25 or less, which over the space of a year is a £275 saving. Don’t just jump into a phone contract because you can afford it. Consider the potential cost savings that you could make.

Do You Have A Phone Currently?

Of course, an important thing to consider is whether or not you actually have a phone currently. If you do not have a phone that you could use a SIM only contract on, then you are going to have to go out and buy one. You might spend £100 or more, whereas with a contract, you will end up actually getting the phone for free. Think about this carefully before getting involved in contracts. The majority of people find that getting a phone incorporated into a contract is the best deal, if they don’t have a phone already. If they have a phone that they are happy with, then they realize the much better option is to go with the SIM only option.

Have You Really Found The Best Deal?

So the chances are, you have found a few deals and you are comparing them. Don’t make a decision on a contract before you have ensured that you have actually found the best deals. A lot of people will head right to the high street to compare the SIM and phone contract offers that are available. The reality is that these places are not well known for offering great deals. Instead, they are known for charging consumers around 30% more than they really should in order to cover their overheads for their office and shop.

So, Which One Is The Best?

It always depends on what the individual has in terms of requirements. Those people that have a phone, or are happy using a phone that is less than £100 might be better off with a SIM only deal. The reality is that a lot of people want an up to date phone and the financially viable option for these people, is just to get a complete contract that includes the up to date phone, rather than purchasing upfront.
